RUNDU, 03 JUL – An 18-year-old man suspected of killing his mother, grandmother and three nephews over the weekend is expected to appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court Today.
Namibian Police Force spokesperson, Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi in a crime report issued on Monday said the accused allegedly assaulted his mother, grandmother and three nephews with a stick, killing them instantly.
The incident occurred between 23h00 on Saturday and 05h30 on Sunday.
“The bodies of the deceased were discovered by a relative the next morning,” the crime report said.
Shikwambi said the accused is reported to be mentally ill and a suspected cannabis user. He reportedly asked his sister for money and when she refused to give him the money, assaulted her.
She then reported the matter to the police, which agitated the suspect and allegedly led to his assault on the five deceased family members. Their names are not yet confirmed, said Shikwambi.
The Governor of Kavango East Region, Samuel Mbambo visited the family’s home on Monday to sympathise with their relatives.
