RUNDU, 22 MAR – The Kavango East under-19 (U-19) netball team is ready for the upcoming The Namibian Newspaper Cup, said the team’s head coach, Melanie Mbuuru.
In an interview with Nampa on Wednesday during the team’s morning training session, Mbuuru said the final 12 players have been selected and her team was preparing properly for the competition.
“The preparation is going well so far and the overall fitness level has improved. We are ready and waiting for the competition,” said Mbuuru.
The 18th edition of the newspaper cup, which will include netball for the first time, is slated for Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region from 30 March to 02 April 2018.
Mbuuru said it is exciting that netball has been included in the competition as this kind of initiative will develop sport.
The netball tournament, which is supported by Nedbank Namibia, will see the winning region walk away with N.dollars 25 000, a floating trophy and 17 gold medals, while the runners-up will get N.dollars 12 500 and 17 silver medals.
The team that finishes third will walk away with N.dollars 6 250 and 17 bronze medals, while the fourth-placed team will receive N.dollars 3 125.
The Kavango East team comprises of Margriet Ndara, Maria Karwapa, Hendrina Shoro, Grace Kathighana, Regina Diyeve, Clothilde Mbambo, Gabriela Sipilikita, Rebekka Kandundu, Justina Marungu, Angelika Muhoko, Runguro Mahina and Eleiteria Katura.
