Craven wins Tour du Sénégal

WINDHOEK, 30 APR – Professional cyclist Dan Craven won the 17th Tour du Sénégal in Dakar on Sunday.
Craven topped the general classification at the end of stage eight with a time of 23 hours and 10 minutes (23:10:00) in the week-long tour which ended Sunday.
The victory follows a bitter-sweet 40th place finish at the Commonwealth Games earlier this month after he fell ill while busy with his final preparations for the games.
Abderrahmane Mehdi Hamza of Algeria, who rides for Sovac – Natura4Ever, finished in second place – 1:08 seconds behind Craven.
Rick Nobel of the Netherlands finished third – 1:15 seconds behind Craven in the 102.4 kilometres race.
For winning the Tour du Senegal, the Namibian cyclist picked up 40 International Cycling Union (UCI) points.
Craven, who rides for his European team, ‘Embrace the World Cycling’ based in Germany, finished stage eight in 20th position – 49 seconds behind the winner Islam Mansouri who clocked 2:36:53 seconds.
‘Embrace the World Cycling’ finished the team standing in second place. Sovac-Natura4ever won the team event, while Rwanda took third position.
The Tour du Senegal is a stage cycling race held annually in Senegal since 2001 and forms part of the UCI Africa Tour.
