Thousands to flock to Biomass Technology Expo 2019

Windhoek Aug 06-Namibia currently has an estimated 30 million hectares affected by bush encroachment, which has spread across the country at a rate of 3% per annum, which means on average, over 10 tonnes of dry biomass is available for harvest per hectare. In a move to raise awareness on technologies for biomass harvesting and processing, the Namibia Biomass Industry Group (N-BiG) together with the Namibia Charcoal Association (NCA) is hosting the second Biomass Technology Expo on 9 August 2019 at Otjiwa Safari Lodge. Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs), corporates, and entrepreneurs interested in unlocking the unlimited economic opportunity of woody biomass are expected to flock to this year’s Biomass Technology Expo in the thousands. The Expo will showcase over 100 exhibitors from 7 countries, over 50 of which will be demonstrating their technologies, products, and services during the event. The expo will also have 35 presentations from local and international experts in their fields. To kickstart the event, the Namibia Charcoal Association will be hosting its Annual General Meeting which will bring together stakeholders in the charcoal and biomass industry at large to review and present prospects for the sub-sector. The exhibitors and demonstrators represent themes such as bush-to-feed, charcoal & biochar, biomass energy, wood composites, research and development, services, harvesting, and processing. Some of the technologies to be demonstrated include bush rollers, chainsaws, brush cutters, mulchers, hydraulic cutters, chippers, shredders, hammer mills, pelletisers, retorts, kilns, drones, mixers, and more! The expo will cater for everyone, with a wide range of activities, food and beverage vendors, as well as a raffle for drought relief with awesome prizes to be won.
