EENHANA, June 9 – Ohangwena and Oshikoto regional council and local authority staff met at Eenhana on Wednesday to look at ways of bringing much-needed change to their institutions and prepare them to best understand and navigate them.
And this brings about infrastructural developments and the much-needed achievements within their regions.
The engagement focused on common issues as well as issues of national interest. Also on other dynamics within regional councils and local authorities and delivery of quality services to the electorates.
Speaking at the occasion deputy minister of urban and rural development, Nathalia Goagoses, encouraged members to develop good working cultures and stressed that systems of nepotism and tribalism must die to bring institutions to greater heights.
‘’It is through the same structures, when we practise good governance without political and individual interests, that we can directly address the aspirations of the citizenry,’’ she said.
She, however, also registered her dismay at the handling of appointments and suspensions of accounting officers and also equally condemned the infighting at institutions.
‘’We need to reflect on how we should handle issues of appointments, suspensions and renewal of employment contracts of the accounting officers of subnational governments in accordance with the relevant acts as amended,’’ she said.
Speaking at the same event, the chief labour inspector for northern regions under the ministry of labour, industrial relations and employment creation, Wilbard Shilumbu, advocated for the importance of a conducive working environment and a productive workforce.
This meeting session was the fifth and so far, the leadership of Kunene, Otjozondjupa, Omaheke, Erongo, Kavango West and Kavango East regions has already been engaged. – Namibia Daily News
