Oshakati, 15 July. A tragic incident occurred on Friday afternoon in Onambugulu village, Oshikoto region, resulting in the untimely death of a 48-year-old woman from Ompugulu village. The victim, whose identity is being withheld, reportedly choked on a piece of meat while attending a memorial service.
According to the local police, the deceased suddenly began choking and coughing after swallowing a large chunk of meat. Witnesses observed her struggling to breathe before collapsing. Immediate medical assistance was sought, and she was swiftly transported to Onandjokwe Hospital. Tragically, she was pronounced dead a few minutes after her arrival, as confirmed by Theopoline Kalompo-Nashikaku, the Oshikoto region police regional commander.
The local community has been deeply affected by this unfortunate incident, as it serves as a reminder of the potential dangers that can arise from everyday activities. As the mourners grieve the loss of their friend, steps may be taken to raise awareness about the importance of proper chewing and general food safety practices to prevent similar incidents in the future.
