RUNDU, 02 MAY – A 16-year-old girl jumped out of a moving taxi with her one-year-old daughter at the Sauyemwa settlement in Rundu at around 15h30 on Saturday.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Crime Investigations Coordinator for the Kavango East Region, Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu told Nampa on Wednesday, the girl jumped out after the taxi driver received a phone call and deviated from the route he was taking to drop the teenager and her baby off.
Kanyetu said the girl thought it was a plan between the driver and the person who called him to have them killed and their bodies mutilated, and thus decided to jump out.
The two sustained minor injuries and are in a stable condition.
In the Kavango West Region, a 50-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree with a rope in his crop field at the Bunya village on Tuesday.
NamPol Kavango West Commander, Commissioner Josephat Abel told this agency on Wednesday the deceased, identified as Mbanze Goswin Sikongo, was discovered dead by his wife.
The incident took place at about 17h00.
According to the police, no foul play is suspected and no suicide note was left behind.
His next of kin have been informed.
Sikongo’s body was transported to the Rundu State Hospital Mortuary.
