Hardap governor updates on clean-up preparations

MARIENTAL, 10 MAY  – The Hardap regional leadership is working around the clock to honour the call of President Hage Geingob for the nationwide clean-up campaign set for 25 May.
Governor Esme Isaack said this on Wednesday when she updated Acting Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, Shivute Indongo via video conference on her region’s clean-up campaign preparations.
“Mobilisation and technical committees were established and convene regularly to mobilise the inhabitants throughout the region with various modes, such as radio announcements, WhatsApp and other social media platforms,” said Isaack.
She noted that considering the current economic climate and based on the need analyses of the various local authorities (LAs) and settlements, they resolved that LAs with stronger capacity will support other LAs and settlements in proximity with heavy duty machinery such as front-end loaders, tipper trucks and excavators.
“I commend the Mariental Municipality as the torchbearer of the region for being supportive in these aspects, as well as the Aranos Town Council.”
In respect of safety and emergency related aspects, Isaack said law enforcement agents are actively involved with LAs and have fire brigade officers ready.
Community health workers are on hand for first aid services, whilst ambulances at health institutions across the region are on alert, she said.
“In respect of transport arrangements, we are estimating to commute around 400 inhabitants from all the constituencies to Rehoboth, where the main clean-up campaign will be held,” Isaack added.
She said they are positive to achieve this by acquiring buses from the ministries of transport and education, constituencies and LAs, while the soliciting of one private bus is at an advanced stage.
Isaack concluded by saying Rehoboth is the border town of the region and the entrance and exit to Hardap, and is therefore designated as the most suitable location for the concentrated clean-up action.
Among the activities lined up are general clean-up, debushing, recycling, removal of rock and sand heaps, and a Life Education Awareness Campaign on citizens’ role in waste management.
Meanwhile, precleaning campaigns were already held in Maltahöhe on Monday and Gibeon on Wednesday, and will continue on Friday in Kriess, followed by Gochas on Monday, Aranos on 15 May, Stampriet (17 May), Hoachanas (18 May), Klein-Aub (19 May), Mariental (21 May), Kalkrand on 23 May, ending with Rehoboth on 25 May.
