OTJIWARONGO, 26 MAR – Five people survived an accident after the sedan they were traveling in bumped and killed three cows on the Otjiwarongo-Outjo road in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha told Nampa on Monday the accident occurred some 27 kilometres north-west of Otjiwarongo at about 00h45.
“The vehicle was coming from Otjiwarongo to Outjo with two women and three men, including the driver,” she said.
Mbeha said the 22-year-old driver told police he only saw the cows when he was close to them, applied brakes but bumped and killed all cattle before the vehicle came to halt.
Four passengers sustained slight injuries and were treated at the Otjiwarongo State Hospital the same day.
The driver was arrested shortly afterwards after he was found to have been operating a vehicle while under influence of alcohol.
He was issued a fine of N.dollars 4 000 for reckless and negligent driving and is expected to appear in the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
