OTJOMUISE, JAN 31 – A 24-year old unlicensed driver lost control of his vehicle on Saturday 29 January, which resulted in the death of one passenger. According to police reports, the driver drove a red Volkswagen recklessly and negligently resulting in him losing control of the car.
“It is alleged that an unlicensed driver, 24-years-old Namibian Male recklessly and negligently whilst intoxicated drove a motor vehicle Volkswagen Golf Red in color and thereby lost control of the vehicle which resulted into a fatal accident causing the death of one passenger named Shimwandi Vendelinus Mwevatina, 32 years’ Namibian male. The next of kin is informed. The driver and the other passenger sustained serious injuries but reported to be in a stable condition. Police investigation continues,” read the report.
The incident happened at around 19h30 in Sam Nujoma Drive and a case of Culpable Homicide, Reckless and negligent driving and Driving a motor vehicle while under influence of alcohol or narcotic effect is being involved.
In the Ongenga settlement, an alleged police vehicle driver attached to the VIP Directorate collided head on with a Range Rover on Friday 28 January.
According to a police report, “It is suspected that the Range Rover was intending to turn to the right while the police vehicle was travelling straight. Shortly after the collision, another vehicle, (a) Toyota Hilux collided against the wreckage of the Range Rover which was still on the road. The drivers and passengers sustained serious to slight injuries and were treated at hospitals. Only one passenger from the Range Rover succumbed; identified as Henock Kambwali, 54 years old Namibian male from Ongenga village. The next of kin informed and police investigation continues.”
A case of culpable homicide is being investigated in Kalkfeld after on Saturday 29 January 2022 at around 15h14 on a gravel road from Farm Otjimbonde to Kalkfeld, a man lost control of a vehicle causing it to overturn. It is alleged that the driver of the motor vehicle, a Grey Toyota pick-up, a 24 years old man lost control over the vehicle causing it to overturn.
“There were eight (8) occupants in the vehicle including the driver. Two (2) passengers died instantly at the scene. One deceased person was identified as Mervin Oxurub (minor) age unknown and Terrence Jozikee Mutanga, 14-years old.”
The driver is reported to be in a stable condition. Five other occupants between the ages of 14 and 16 years sustained minor to very serious injuries. The next of kin of the identified deceased person were informed and the Police investigation continues. – musa@namibiadailynews.info
