Katima Mulilo, July 21 – Excitement fills the air in Katima Mulilo as residents receive the much-anticipated news of free WiFi coverage in certain parts of the town. The Mobile Telecommunication Company (MTC) has signed a memorandum of understanding, promising to provide free WiFi network coverage to the community.
This development comes as a huge relief to the townspeople, as they will now be able to access the internet conveniently while running errands or shopping. Inambao Fanny, a delighted resident of Katima Mulilo, expressed his joy, stating that free WiFi in town is a game-changer. The COVID-19 pandemic has emphasized the importance of internet connectivity, as mobile phones and computers have become essential tools for accessing vital information and educational resources. Inambao Fanny added that many households in the area lack WiFi networks, and the free service will greatly benefit students who require internet access for their studies. During the pandemic, parents struggled to afford data for online classes, especially those who were unemployed. The introduction of free WiFi is a welcome relief for the community.
Residents are also urging service providers to expand the coverage to all public places, including schools, hospitals, and bus stations. Access to free WiFi in these locations would further enhance the community’s ability to stay connected and access online resources conveniently.
In a memo released by the Katima Mulilo town council, it was announced that the agreement for free WiFi coverage had been successfully signed. The coverage area stretches from Zambezi Shopping Mall to Kamunu Wholesale, providing a significant reach to residents and visitors in the town.
The introduction of free WiFi coverage marks a significant step forward in improving digital connectivity and enhancing the lives of Katima Mulilo’s residents. As more people gain access to the internet, opportunities for education, communication, and economic growth are set to flourish. ~Namibia Daily News
