WINDHOEK, 31 JULY – A Windhoek resident on trial in the High Court for allegedly stabbing his wife to death and keeping her body in their shack for three days in October 2016, on Tuesday denied committing the offence.
Elvis Mieze entered not guilty pleas to the charges of murder and attempting to defeat or obstruct the course of justice in connection with the death of his wife, Gedrud Vaanda Tjihuiko.
Mieze did not offer any explanation for his pleas and challenged the prosecution to prove all allegations against him.
The accused entered his pleas as per the instructions he gave his State-funded defence lawyer, Milton Engelbrecht in court on Tuesday when his murder trial resumed before High Court Judge Naomi Shivute.
Tjihuiko, 44, was stabbed to death with a sharp object, allegedly by Mieze, who then reportedly stored her body in their shack for three days.
When the body started to decompose, Mieze confided in his uncle, who alerted the police.
He was then arrested and confessed to the crime.
State Advocate Carol Ann Esterhuizen is defending the prosecution.
The trial continues on Wednesday.
