WINDHOEK, 11 APR – President Hage Geingob said Government is committed to continue with the school-feeding programme as a key project for poverty eradication.
Geingob said this while presenting his fourth State of the Nation Address in Parliament here on Wednesday.
“During 2017/18 we were able to provide food for 365 854 learners at 1 456 schools,” he said.
The Head of State said the school-feeding programme will be linked to small hold farmers in order to diversify the food basket.
Geingob added that communities would be empowered to produce food for schools to stimulate economic activity at a local level.
Feeding learners at schools has been part of the government’s strategy to address inequalities and expand access to education opportunities, especially to children from vulnerable backgrounds.
