NLA wants justice for Cheryl Ujaha

WINDHOEK, SEPT. 5 – The Namibia Law Association (NLA) has joined the call that absolutely everything be done to bring the perpetrator or perpetrators of the brutal killing of nine-year-old Cheryl Avihe Ujaha, to justice.
The little girl was reported missing on 26 August 2018 before her body was found on 28 August, with her remains seemingly boiled, mutilated and some body parts removed.
No arrest has been made in the murder as yet.
The association’s chairperson, Taswald July in a media statement issued on Wednesday said the crime forms part of a particular trend of violence targeting the most vulnerable members of the Namibian society.
He added: “A trend that is reflective of a society in which the tendons of connectivity to our shared humanity appear to have all but completely disintegrated.”
July suggested that a meaningful long-term solution to the problem of persistent violence in Namibia is to address the root causes of violence, which require that Namibians take a long hard look inward to determine what it is about societal structures, programmes, interactions, value and belief systems that make these crimes possible.
“NLA believes that it is high time that we take a critical look at our society and that we take constructive steps towards ensuring that our children grow up in a safe and protective environment so that they may reach their full potential.”
A public memorial service will be held on Thursday in Windhoek at the El Shaddai Ministries and Ujaha’s burial will take place on Saturday at Gammams Cemetery. – NAMPA
