WINDHOEK, Feb. 22 – Just off the heels of a successful Road Challenge, Nedbank Namibia will be hosting the Nedbank Cycle Challenge Mountain Bike (MTB) edition on Sunday, 25 February at Avis Dam in Windhoek starting at 07h00.
Participants of the Nedbank MTB Challenge can take on one of the three distances which include 15km, 30km and 60km routes. Registration for the race will take place at Eagles Restaurant, Avis Dam on 24 February from 10h00 to 13h00.
The Nedbank MTB Challenge is unique, as riders in the 60km race will have an opportunity to pick up Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) points. UCI is the world governing body for sports cycling and oversees international competitive cycling events. The UCI is based in Aigle, Switzerland.
The UCI issues racing licenses to riders and enforces disciplinary rules, such as in matters of doping. The UCI also manages the classification of races and the points ranking system in various cycling disciplines including road and track cycling mountain biking and BMX, for both men and women, amateur and professional. It also oversees the World Championships.
Co-sponsors of the Nedbank Cycle Challenge include Namibia Health Plan (NHP), Coca-Cola and the Windhoek Express.
The Kids Challenge will also take place this weekend on Saturday, 24 February. The race is open to children between the ages of three and 13 years, it will take place at Avis Dam, and participants will be taken on a route around Avis and through the newly established bike park. Parents will still be able to register their kids on the Saturday morning between 07h00 – 09h45, N$30 is the fee per child entered. The kids race starts at 10h00, and it’s presented by Cycletec Adventures Namibia. – NDN Staffer
