MIRC condemns the killing of Palestinians by Israeli troops

WINDHOEK, 12 APR  – The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation (MIRC), Netumbo Nandi- Ndaitwah on Thursday condemned the recent killings of Palestinians by the Israeli troops in the Gaza strip.
Nandi- Ndaitwah announced her condemnation of the killings during a visit by the Foreign Minister of The Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Javad Zarif.
A total of 30 Palestinians were killed on Friday last week by the Israeli forces during 10 days of protest at the Gaza strip’s border with Israel.
“We condemn the recent brutal killings of innocent Palestinians by Israeli troops,’ said the MICR minister.
She said Namibia still continues to support the Palestinian people in their legitimate struggle for their inalienable right to self-determination and independence with East Jerusalem as their capital.
On Syria, the Minister urged all parties involved in the conflict to engage in good faith negotiations, under the auspices of the United Nations to end the bloodletting conflict in the country and to cease all hostilities to end the suffering of civilians and aggressions against the territorial integrity of Syria.
“We are further concerned about the reported chemical weapons used against civilians and urge foreign powers to exercise maximum restraint and not rush to judgement on the apportion blame,” implored Nandi-Ndaitwah.
She further stressed that in relation to international peace and security, Namibia supports efforts aimed at combating terrorism and the spread of terrorist groups, which pose a threat to peace and security.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs further noted that it is important for the two countries as Members of the G77 and China and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to continue maintaining regular consultations on vital issues such as the prevention and combating of terrorism and organized crime as well as promoting sustainable development and to take concerted efforts towards climate change.
The G77 is a group of 77 member countries at the United Nations (UN) forming a coalition of developing nations designed to promote its members collective economic interest and create an enhanced joint negotiating capacity at the UN.
Nandi-Ndaitwah further concluded that the need for a reform of the UN Security Council and other multilateral institutions also remains a high priority for Namibia.
