REHOBOTH, 24 MAY – A case of murder was opened at the Mariental Police Station on Tuesday after a man was killed after a shot went off accidentally at Farm |Orab near Mariental.
The Namibian Police Force’s Crime Investigations Coordinator for the Hardap Region, Deputy Commissioner Eric Clay confirmed to Nampa on Wednesday that the incident occurred around 17h00.
“It is alleged that a shot accidentally went off from a 22 rifle while the suspect was cleaning the rifle and it fatally struck one of his farm workers in the back,” he explained.
The deceased, identified as the 36-year-old Paulus Kampasi, was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.
His next of kin have been informed.
The 65-year-old suspect, a foreman on the farm, was arrested Tuesday and the shooting is being investigated.
