RUNDU, 20 APR – The Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation has warned that a fake email regarding purported distribution of funds from the European Development Fund is doing the rounds.
A statement issued by the ministry Friday said the fraudsters make use of the name of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah in the email.
It asks people to apply to benefit from the “11th European Development Fund (2014-2020), National Indicative Programme 2014-2020 for Namibia”.
“The email address being used is not that of the deputy prime minister and minister, which is tantamount to fraud,” the statement said.
It further said Nandi-Ndaitwah has distanced herself from the email, which also says she distributed payments from the fund to her friends.
“The Deputy Prime Minister and Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation do not handle any funds from the European Development Fund,” it said.
If such funds are allocated to Namibia, the relevant institution assigned by an Act of Parliament will take appropriate action for the use of the funds.
The public was also cautioned not to provide their details in such emails, as they could lose their money to fraudsters.
