WINDHOEK, 03 AUG – The continuation of a fraud trial in which a City of Windhoek legal adviser stands accused of falsifying documents for the sale of a house over municipal debt, has been postponed to mid-November.
Court documents availed to Nampa on Friday show accused Benedictus Ngairorue (age not provided) made another appearance before Windhoek Magistrate Vanessa Stanley on 30 July 2018, when the continuation of his fraud trial was postponed to 15 November 2018.
The continuation of the trial was adjourned until this date because Senior Public Prosecutor Rowan van Wyk, who is handling the State’s case in the matter, is on compassionate leave.
Ngairorue’s defence lawyers, Advocate Gerson Hinda and Orben Sibeya did not raise objections to the request for postponement.
The continuation of the trial is set to run from 15 until 19 November 2018, as per the decision taken in court by both the defence team and prosecution representative.
The house in question belonged to the late Frieda Kahaanga, a war veteran who owed the municipality about N.dollars 54 000.
It is reported that the municipality wanted to auction the house, but accused Ngairorue allegedly transferred the house into Johannes Aoxamub’s name.
The City’s internal auditors detected the change of names on the accounts and aggrieved municipal workers allegedly reported the matter to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Investigators attached to the ACC then asked the municipality about the allegations that Ngairorue falsified the documents.
Kahaanga died in March 2014 after the municipality sold the house.
Ngairorue is free on warning.
