Ambunda vies for third world title

WINDHOEK, 15 AUG  – Former World Boxing Organisation (WBO) and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) world champion, Paulus ‘El Jesus’ Ambunda is confident of becoming a world champion once more.
Ambunda will take on Muhamad ‘The Chosen Wan’ Ridhwan of Singapore for the vacant IBO world super bantamweight title on 29 September 2018.
Speaking to Nampa via WhatsApp on Tuesday, the former world champion who is currently in Singapore promoting the fight, said: “I have been training hard for this fight and I will prove all my critics wrong. I will show the world that I am still the same Ambunda who won two world titles.”
He added that the fight comes at a perfect time for him as he still feels fresh and young enough to punish his opponent when they clash.
“Ridhwan is going to feel the pain when we meet in September. I met him here during our promotional video shoot and I am more encouraged to step in the ring against him as my body is currently in perfect shape,” he noted.
Ambunda stated that he will dedicate his fight to his father and mother who will be celebrating their birthdays on the same day as the fight.
“My parents still don’t know I will be fighting on the same date as their birthdays that’s why it’s important for me to win this title as a gift for them. Winning this title will also prove all those who wrote me out wrong,” he continued.
Ambunda, who is the current World Boxing Council International Silver Super Bantamweight title holder, said he is hard at work while in Singapore.
“I have been sparring with two boxers here in Singapore who will be part of our undercard fights in the light-heavyweight and welterweight bouts and they are really pushing me to the limit.
“I’ll just come do the final touches back home then I will be ready to step in that ring and win my third world title,” he said.
Ridhwan’s professional career started late at the age of 28, only two years ago, but he has since won 11 fights in a row, with eight wins coming via knockout.
In the process, the 30-year-old pugilist also won the IBO International Super Featherweight title as well as the IBO Inter-continental super featherweight title.
Ambunda, at 37-years-old, has a record of 26 wins and two defeats, while he won the WBC International Silver super bantamweight title in his last fight against Nasibu Ramadhan of Tanzania in December 2017.
