WINDHOEK, 18 SEP – The police in the Khomas Region are investigating a case of armed robbery after a man was held at gunpoint in his home in Windhoek and robbed of goods valued at an estimated N.dollars 500 000.
According to a crime report issued by the Namibian Police Force’s Public Relations Division on Tuesday, the 57-year-old man, who was home alone, was held at gunpoint and tied up by five male suspects around 21h00 on Friday.
The incident occurred along Nelson Mandela Avenue in Eros.
The suspects took off with a Jeep Wrangler, a cellphone, a Sony digital camera, a 9mm pistol and three remote controls.
No arrests or recovery have been made yet and police investigations continue.
In an unrelated matter, the police nabbed a 26-year-old male for illegal possession and dealing in controlled wildlife products at the China Town Shopping Complex in Katutura on Saturday.
The man was allegedly found in possession of one pangolin skin valued at N.dollars 50 000, which he did not have a permit for.
Meanwhile, the police have also launched an investigation into the death of a 58-year-old man after his body was found around 04h30 at the taxi rank near Shoprite in Windhoek’s central business district on Friday.
The man was identified by means of documents found on his person. His next of kin have however not been informed yet as they are unknown to the police. As such, his identity also cannot be revealed.
The cause of death is also yet to be determined and police investigations continue.
Two separate cases of dealing in cannabis were also registered with the Namibian Police in Windhoek and Gobabis between Thursday and Friday.
On Thursday at about 15h30 at the Gobabis weighbridge, the police confiscated seven parcels of cannabis weighing a total of 1.55 kg from a 26-year-old suspect after searching him.
The cannabis is valued at N.dollars 15 500. The suspect was arrested.
In the other case, on Friday around 14h00 along the B1 road near the weighbridge outside, three male suspects aged 33, 40 and 44 years were arrested after being found in possession of one block of cannabis known as ‘skunk’.
The drugs are valued at N.dollars 6 000.
In an unrelated incident, the police managed to recover nine heads of cattle worth N.dollars 60 000 which were allegedly stolen from Farm Kalkpan in the Dordabis area on either 14 or 15 September 2018.
No arrests have however been made yet and police investigations continue.
