WINDHOEK, 18 SEP – The Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration has warned the public against a fake LinkedIn account which is being used to scam people out of money.
A statement issued Tuesday said the ministry has received reports of a fictitious account on the professional networking website impersonating Minister of Home Affairs and Immigration, Frans Kapofi, offering financing for business ideas.
“Another untrue message portrays the minister as an agent for a certain ‘China-Africa Development Fund’, encouraging individuals to buy application forms for loans,” it said.
The ministry said Kapofi does not have a LinkedIn account.
“The account is a hoax, fabricated by hackers or fraudsters. The ministry urges individuals to desist from responding to these deceptive message aimed at defrauding individuals,” the statement said.
