WINDHOEK, March 27 — The Namibian Chess Federation (NCF) recently selected a contingent of five men and five women to represent the country at upcoming international events, including the 12th African Games.
Dante Beukes, Charles Eichab, Heskiel Ndahangwpo, Leonard Mueller and Jossy Uapingene, represent the five male, while the women players are Nicola Tjaronda, Lishen Mentile, Rauha Shipindo and Magdalena Valombola.
NCF President yesterday said: “It was a challenging yet a fruitful and fun weekend. Players come from all over the country to take part in the selection tournament. We have seen the sport grown over the years and I am satisfied with the turnout of the players. It was very exciting because some of the games played by the veterans lasted for hours,” he said.
Those players will also represent Namibia at the 12th African Games, formerly known as the All-Africa Games or the Pan African, to be held in Morocco from August 23 to September 3 this year. – NDN Staffer
