RUACANA, 26 MAR – Onesi Legend Football Club are the champions of the 2018 Ruacana Power Sports Tournament.
They defeated the host, Ruacana Town Council 2-0 in the final encounter of the tournament at Ruacana in the Omusati Region on Sunday.
The teachers from the Ruacana Education Circuit beat Shivute CC 3-1 in the third place play-off.
Onesi Legend, as the champions, scooped the top prize of N.dollars 4 000 and a floating trophy, while Ruacana Town Council and Shivute CC won N.dollars 2 000 and N.dollars 1 000 in the second and third positions, respectively.
The tournament is open to companies or institutions from within the Ruacana area. Besides football, other sports codes participants compete in a 10 kilometre race for different age categories, volleyball, netball, tug of war and snooker competitions.
It was sponsored by NamPower’s Ruacana Power Station for the third consecutive year.
One of the organisers, Moses Hange from the NamPower Ruacana Power Station said the tournament is aimed at strengthening corporate ties.
“It also creates a platform for organised social interaction,” he said.
The Namibia Airports Company (NAC) team won the volleyball category, NamPower won the netball and pool categories and Chain Block won the tug of war.
Paulus Nepolo won the senior men’s category of the race, while Wilhelmina Lamek won the senior women’s category.
Junias Haufiku was first in the junior men’s category, while Festus Watuluka and Wilka Isak were the winners in the veteran men and women categories.
They each received gold medals and N.dollars 1 000, while the netball winners (NamPower) took home a floating trophy and N.dollars 2 000 and the volleyball winners, NAC won a floating trophy and N.dollars 2 000.
The tug of war winners, Chain Block and winners of the snooker competition (NamPower) each won N.dollars 1 000.
The town of Ruacana will this weekend host the Ruacana Annual Easter Weekend Tournament.
