Title-chasing Windhoek United hoping for rivals to slip up

REHOBOTH, 15 JUN  – Title-chasing Windhoek United have vowed to win all their remaining games in their quest for promotion to the Namibia Premier League (NPL).
Team manager of the Southern Stream First Division Inland Stream outfit, Dawid Morgan on Thursday told Nampa the team is ready to fight until the very end.
“The chances of us winning the league are 50-50 depending on log leaders Young Brazilians slipping up against Try Again in their match on Saturday and us capitalising on their misfortune,” Morgan said.
He said their mission is to collect all six points this weekend against Windhoek-based Ramblers and Rebels on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
“We are injury free, the team looks good and the spirit in the camp is high,” Morgan said.
In other matches in the Inland Stream, fourth-placed Try Again will hope to revive their title hopes against Young Brazilians in Keetmanshoop at the J Stephanus Stadium at 15h00. Try Again lost the reverse fixture 2-0 in Karasburg in the first leg.
On Saturday in Windhoek, the ‘German Derby’ will see Ramblers locking horns with relegation threatened and sixth-placed Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) at the Ramblers Stadium at 14h00, while fifth-placed Rebels will hope to ease their relegation worries against neighbours and title chasing second-placed Windhoek United at the Sam Nujoma Stadium at 14h00.
On Sunday, Rebels will face SKW at the Sam Nujoma Stadium at 14h00, while at the Ramblers Stadium at 14h00, Ramblers will face Windhoek United.
Young Brazilians only need eight points to win the Coastal Stream, whereas Windhoek United will need to win their remaining three games and hope for the Karasburg-based team to drop points.
If SKW lose two more games, they will be relegated to the Khomas Second Division.
From their four remaining games, Rebels need seven points to avoid the dreaded relegation axe.
Ramblers also have four games remaining, while the rest have three matches to go.
The winners of the Coastal Stream will face the winners of the Inland Stream in a play-off game to determine which team will be promoted to the NPL, whereas the teams ending sixth in both streams will be relegated to the second divisions.
