WINDHOEK, APRIL 26 – The 8th Edition of the Sam Nujoma Half-Marathon will be held concurrently with his 90th birthday celebrations in the capital of Windhoek.
In a press-briefing in the capital on Thursday, MTC announced a collaboration with Athletics Namibia to launch the half Marathon, scheduled for 12 May 2019. The marathon is open to participants who include local and international athletes, as well as the general public.
MTCs Corporate Affairs Manager John Ekongo said the marathon does not just provide an important platform for athletes to compete and test their abilities, but “equally so to honour the founding President, Dr Sam Nujoma.”
President of Athletics Namibia Erwin Naimwaka explained: “The MTC Dr Sam Nujoma Half Marathon is one of the prime events on the athletics calendar in Namibia. Named after the Founding President and Father of the Namibia Nation, it is aimed at honouring him and the disciplined and healthy lifestyle he leads.
Naimwaka added that the event also provides an opportunity for National and international athletes to showcase their talents and as preparation for other international events. The race will comprise of 21km, 10km and 5 km races open to both local and international runners. – email@example.com
