WINDHOEK, 11 MAY – The netball championships at the maiden edition of the Namibia Youth Games (NYG) kicked off on Thursday afternoon at the United Trustco court in the capital.
The opening matches of the day saw a high scoring game between host region Khomas and Ohangwena, with the former emerging victorious with a 47-7 score line.
Khomas, who had a handful of supporters cheering behind them, gave their opponents no chance as they dominated all the four quarters of the game from the first whistle.
Another high scoring match played on the day was between Otjozondjupa and //Kharas. Otjozondjupa brushed off the challenge from //Kharas as they humbled the southern regional team to win the match by a 60-31 score line.
One of the closely contested matches saw the winner of the maiden edition of the Namibian Newspaper Cup Netball tournament, Kavango East, beat Kunene 25-18.
The games are taking place from Thursday to Saturday in Windhoek.
Over 1 800 athletes and officials are participating in the games that include men’s football, athletics, basketball, boxing, judo, netball, swimming, tennis and volleyball.
