MOSCOW/KIEV, Jan. 24 — Russian forces have struck energy facilities servicing Ukraine’s military-industrial complex and Ukrainian military deployment areas over the past 24 hours, Russia’s defense ministry said on Saturday.
Russian long-range precision missiles and attack drones hit a Ukrainian plant manufacturing drones and energy facilities servicing Ukraine’s military-industrial complex, the ministry said in a statement.
Russia’s operational-tactical aircraft, missile troops and artillery units struck 157 targets, including long-range drone storage sites and operator training facilities, as well as temporary deployment points of Ukrainian armed forces and foreign mercenaries, according to the statement.
It added that air defense systems shot down four rockets fired by U.S.-made HIMARS multiple rocket launch systems and 137 fixed-wing drones.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Saturday that at least one person was killed and dozens of others injured in the Russian attack that hit four regions.
In the capital of Kiev and its surrounding region, the attack primarily targeted energy facilities, he said on Telegram.
Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that almost 6,000 apartment buildings in the city were left without heating, and parts of the city also experienced water supply disruptions. (Namibia Daily News/Xinhua)
