WINDHOEK, June 15 – The Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism announced in Windhoek on Tuesday that 11 black rhinos have been killed in the Etosha National Park since the beginning of June.
Chief public relations officer for the ministry, Romeo Muyunda, in a press statement, said officials came across the 11 dehorned carcasses, aged three weeks and older, during regular patrols and “this is regrettable and a strong indication that the fight against poaching is not over”
He added that 22 rhinos had already been poached so far in Namibia in 2022.
“The ministry, in partnership with Namibian Police and Namibian Defence Force and other partners, will intensify wildlife protection and law enforcement investigations including intensifying our patrols, security and intelligence gathering in Etosha National Park, which is the country’s flagship park,” Muyanda said.
No arrest has been made in connection with the recent 11 rhinos found and investigations are continuing. – Namibia Daily News
