ONGWEDIVA, 20 SEP – The 2018 Old Mutual Far North Championship activities have been completed at the regional level and the winning regional football and netball teams are due to compete in the inter-regional finals at Oshakati this weekend.
The inter-regional finals will be played on a knockout basis at the Oshakati Independence Stadium from Friday until Saturday.
Sport Officer of the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service in the Oshana Region, Toini Kasheeta told Nampa on Wednesday that four football teams and four netball teams from the Oshana, Ohangwena, Omusati and Oshikoto regions qualified for the final competition.
These four teams are Andimba Toivo Ya Toivo Senior Secondary School (SSS) from Oshana, Uukule SSS from Oshikoto, Mwadikange Kaulinge SSS from Ohangwena and David Sheehama SSS from Omusati.
Uukule will also represent the Oshikoto Region in netball during the inter-regional games, while Gabriel Taapopi SSS (Oshana), Dr Abraham Iyambo SSS (Ohangwena) and Ashipala SSS (Omusati) are the other contestants in the netball category.
Prizes awarded at the regional level were N.dollars 3 000 for the regional winner, the runners-up received N.dollars 2 000 and N.dollars 1 000 was the third prize in both the football and netball competitions.
The winner scoops the first prize of N.dollars 5 000, a floating trophy, a photocopier, gold medals, Old Mutual-branded T-shirts, sport equipment and full football gear or full netball outfits at the end of the inter-regional finals.
The runners-up will receive N.dollars 3 000, a computer, silver medals, T-shirts, water bottles, a set of sport equipment and full football/netball gear, while the third team takes N.dollars 2 000, bronze medals, a fax machine, branded T-shirts, stationery, water bottles, sport equipment and football/netball gear.
The fourth prize is N.dollars 1 000, football/netball equipment used during the tournament, sport equipment and new full football/netball gear.
