WINDHOEK, 24 APR – President Hage Geingob arrived in Luanda, Angola for the Southern African Development Community (SADC) double Troika Summit on Monday.
A statement issued by the Office of the President on Monday said Geingob, the current deputy chair of SADC, was expected to attend the summit on Monday and Tuesday.
“The summit is expected to among others deliberate on the progress report on the implementation of the reforms roadmap and SADC decisions on the Kingdom of Lesotho; the political and security situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the consolidation of democracy in the SADC region focusing on forthcoming elections in the DRC, Madagascar, Swaziland and Zimbabwe,” it said.
Geingob will take over as Chair at the 38th Ordinary SADC Summit in August this year.
He was expected to return to Namibia on Tuesday, after the Summit.
The Troika is mandated to steer and provide member states with direction regarding matters that threaten peace, security and stability in the region.
