NKURENKURU, 10 MAY – On Tuesday night troupe of elephants invaded Kandjimi Murangi Secondary School in Kahenge Constituency of the Kavango West. The herd appeared and destroyed fences, and it is not known as to why the elephants attacked the premises.
Kavango West Governor Sirkka Usiku confirmed the elephant incident at the school and she said “no human injuries at least but i’m worried the school was renovated recently to tune of N$ 70 million” she concluded.
Human Wildlife-Conflict (HWC) is a major concern in both Kavango regions and Zambezi regions. Recently, Minister of Environment and Tourism Pohamba Shifeta was heavily criticized by affected regions on his comments he made stating that his ministry would not compensate people killed by crocodiles and hippos while swimming.
