RUNDU, 07 MAY The recent “boycott” and political squabbles that have dominated Rundu Town Council appear to be the final straw that broke the camel’s back, as Sikongo Haihambo who – until earlier today – had been the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), decided to call it quits.
Former mayor Verna Sinimbo and her deputy Ralf Ihemba were scheduled to attend a swearing in on 02 May, but did not attend, highlighting a palpable tension that has surfaced over recent months.
Haihambo’s tenure was initially a six-month band-aid that reached its end in February, before the council had plead with him to stay for the forseable future. However, the submission of his two months’ notice has left a gaping void in the Rundu political arena. – mrobert@namibiadailynews.info
