GABORONE, 08 DEC – The Zimbabwean netball team thrashed Namibia 22-62 at the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region Five, Under-20 Youth Games in Gaborone, Botswana on Friday.
The Namibians lost their opening match of the competition 28-51 against Zambia on Thursday.
In their second match at the competition, the Namibian players struggled to contain their Zimbabwean counterparts, who played fast-paced netball.
Zimbabwe, who beat host Botswana in their opening match, forced the Namibians into unwanted errors throughout the first quarter which ended 6-17 in their favour. In the second quarter, Zimbabwe continued where they left off, extending their lead to 12-32.
The Namibians had no answer for their opponents throughout the match as they only managed to score six points in the third quarter compared to their dominant opponents, who scored 16 in that quarter.
In the last quarter, Namibia continued to lose the ball unnecessarily, giving their opponents an opportunity to add more points to their tally. Zimbabwe scored 14 more points in the last quarter, while Namibia only managed five, for a final score of 22-62.
Namibia’s next match in the competition will be at 12h00 on Saturday against Botswana.
