SWAKOPMUND, 08 OCT – Two men died on the spot on the Usakos-Arandis road on Sunday after the towed vehicle they were travelling in collided with an oncoming truck.
According to the Namibian Police Force’s crime report issued here on Monday, the vehicle was being towed by another vehicle following a breakdown around 23h30, when the tow-rope broke, causing the driver to lose control.
The towed vehicle had two occupants, who both died on the spot and have been identified as 41-year-old Nangolo Simon Kondjashili (driver) and 42-year-old Matias Tangi Iipumbu.
The next of kin of the deceased persons were informed.
The accident happened approximately 50 kilometres to Arandis from Usakos.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, 58-year-old Hendrik Hans Witbooi also died on the spot in a motor vehicle accident, while travelling on the C-14 road from Walvis Bay to Goageb on Saturday.
According to the police, the driver of the pick-up truck in which the deceased was travelling, was trying to overtake a sedan, bumping into the vehicle in the process and causing the accident at around 01h00.
There were two other occupants in the pick-up including the driver, who both sustained serious injuries and were transported to the hospital, both in critical condition.
The sedan had two occupants, including the driver, who did not sustain any injuries.
A case of culpable homicide and negligent driving is being investigated.
