Twenty-two public institutions operate at Nkurenkuru

NKURENKURU, 08 MAY  – Twenty-two government offices, ministries and agencies are now operating from Nkurenkuru and most are renting offices from local entrepreneurs at the town, which is helping to stimulate the local economy.
Governor of the Kavango West Region, Sirkka Ausiku said this while delivering the State of the Region Address here Tuesday.

“The Nkurenkuru Town Council allocated plots to all the offices, ministries and agencies, however most of them did not yet formalise the process of applying and paying for these plots,” she said.

The governor said during the 2017/18 financial year, Government allocated N.dollars 157 331 000 to the region for development programmes, which includes the construction of the Rupara Rural Development Centre, a conference hall and metal workshop.

All projects are ongoing in the youngest region of the country.
The Kavango West Regional Council (KWRC) is also servicing land at the Katwitwi settlement.

“The construction of services infrastructure for Mpungu, Bunya and Katjinakatji settlements was put on hold as the money was verimented by the KWRC to cater for pending invoices from the previous financial year of 2016/17,” she added.

Ausiku said the council also received funds for the implementation of community projects such as support for poor rural farmers, which will be implemented in the Tondoro, Ncuncuni and Mpungu constituencies.

The Nkurenkuru Town Council, she further said, has one project during the period under review which is the construction off municipal services such as water, electricity, roads and sewers at Extension 2 and Extension 3.

The council further managed to allocate 48 houses to beneficiaries under the mass housing programme.
The town is expecting 81 houses to be constructed by private developers at Nkurenkuru Extension 2. Work started in April this year.
Kavango West was declared a region separate to Kavango East on 08 August 2013.
