OTJIWARONGO, 20 AUG – The three men accused of attacking a 65-year-old farmer in the Outjo District last week were on Monday denied bail when they appeared in the Outjo Magistrate’s Court.
Laurence Aib, 25; Willem Garden, 31; and the 27-year-old Reinhardt Uirab made their first court appearance on charges of robbery, attempted murder and housebreaking.
Their case was postponed to 24 September 2018 for them to apply for legal aid and to allow for further police investigations.
It is alleged that the three men, who were armed with knives, stormed the farmhouse of Detlev Doll on Farm Ekotoveni last Wednesday night.
Ekotoveni is situated about 25 kilometres northeast of Outjo.
They allegedly hit Doll over the head with a glass and he fell to the ground and they kicked and beat him.
“He sustained deep wounds on his head,” spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha told Nampa.
The suspects stole a variety of household goods, airtime recharge vouchers and a few coins and fled on foot.
Doll was assisted by neighbouring farmers who took him to the Outjo State Hospital.
The suspects were arrested the same night with the assistance of community members and police officers who teamed up to track their footprints.
Police investigations in the matter continue.
