WINDHOEK, Jan. 25 – The 5th edition of the Corporate Volleyball Social Leagues(CVSL) will commence as from 28th February 2018, and team registration is now open. Last season, Casa De Cambio II managed to dislodge Nampower III from champions’ status and this year will provide a platform for Casa De Cambio II to establish their own dominance over other competitors.
The League was established in January 2014, according to organiser Albert Khevare, and it has attracted companies and non-professionals who love sport and have an interest in keeping fit.
“This idea has received great support from various Corporate companies, individuals as well as huge blessing from Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVF) & the Central Volleyball Association (CVA) . This season is marks the 5th consecutive season that the CVSL is in existance, by far exceeding our expectations. The league has attracted many companies and Government Ministries.”
The CVSL runs from March to august annually, with games played once a month on a Saturday.
Last season, 18 teams participated and battled it out for the N$4500 winners prize money, but in the end Casa De Cambio won first place as well as Team of the Season. Nampower had to settle for the N$3500 prize money for 2nd Place, with Bank of Namibia rounding up the podium and collecting N$3000 for their 3rd place effort. The rest of the teams went away with corporate gifts for their participation.
The registration fee for league is N$3000.00 per team which is payable before the league kicks-off, and it is currently open until the 28th of February 2018.
Said Khevare, “One of our priorities is to ensure that we set a platform for none-professional volleyball players, volleyball enthusiasts and employees from various companies and Government institutions to showcase their skills on a regular basis. Also, this ensures that we contribute to the missions and visions of both the NVF and that of CVA. We are on track in terms on this as we have the blessing of these two bodies.” – Musa Zimunya
