RA vows to deliver dual carriage roads in major towns

GROOTFONTEIN, 29 APR – Road construction activities underway on the dual carriage road network linking major towns in the country, continues to progress very well, according to Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Roads Authority (RA), Conrad Lutombi.
Lutombi, during the official inauguration of a new tarred road between Gobabis and Grootfontein here on Friday, gave an update on the provision and delivery of roads at different towns in Namibia.
President Hage Geingob officially inaugurated the new road.
Lutombi said besides the economic slowdown facing the country, the RA is determined to complete the dual carriage roads between Hosea Kutako International Airport and Windhoek, as well as the project between Windhoek and Okahandja.
“We would like to assure the nation that the dual carriage roads between Omuthiya and Ondangwa, Ondangwa-Oshakati and Swakopmund-Walvis Bay are also coming very soon,” said Lutombi.
Other roads to be upgraded to bitumen standards include the Swakopmund-Henties Bay road, as well as the Henties Bay-Uis-Kamanjab roads.
The CEO said the RA will make sure these projects, once started, are completed within the specified timeframes.
Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the RA, Brain Katjaerua on his part said the authority is aware that these national road projects will cost Government millions of dollars.
Therefore, the RA will promptly carry out its mandate to manage a safe and efficient national road network to support economic growth, he said.
Katjaerua also promised effective planning of the new roads and to continue maintaining the existing ones.
