OKAKARARA, 15 AUG – Otjinene Village Council Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Nathaniel Karuaihe on Tuesday appeared in the Okakarara Magistrate’s Court on corruption charges.
Karuaihe and partner, Willy Kambonga both appeared on corruption charges after they allegedly provided false information on an interlock tender of N$ 400 000 in 2014 that was funded by the Road Fund Administration (RFA), while the former was the CEO of Okakarara Town Council in 2014.
Kambonga was the sub-contractor for the project which was placed under the Okakarara Town Council.
The completed project was meant to interlock the shoulder portion of road between the Okakarara Town Council parking and the Magistrate’s Court.
The accused appeared before the Okakarara Assistant Magistrate, Imelda Mujoro on two charges – knowingly giving false information to the RFA agent in connection with the tender and also providing false information to an authorised official of the RFA on the same tender.
Both Karuaihe and Kambonga opted to engage the legal services of their privately-instructed lawyers in the matter.
Their case was then postponed to 25 September 2018 to allow them acquire legal representation.
They were arrested on Monday by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and spent a night in police custody at Okakarara.
Public prosecutor Johannes Inongelwa did not oppose the granting of bail of N$ 8 000 each.
Both accused men posted bail on Tuesday morning shortly after their first hearing. – NAMPA
