OSHAKATI, June 23 – Oshana police have warned members of the public about illegally helping foreign nationals to obtain Namibian citizenship after four people appeared in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on fraud charges.
The accused are Josua Nghipuhafo Haunawa, a Namra tax official based at Oshakati, Beata Sheehama (62) headwoman of Onawa village, Oshakati East, and village secretary, Elizabeth NA Booysen (26), who are charged with allegedly helping Angolan national, Gabriel Handuukeme Ndidalelwa, obtain Namibian citizenship at the health ministry’s regional office on 17 December 2021.
A report issued by Oshana police spokesperson, Thomas Aiyambo, said Haunawa and Ndidalelwa first appeared in court at Oshakati on 9 May 2022. Sheehama and Booysen were arrested and appeared in court on Tuesday, 22 June, and were granted bail.
The case has been postponed to 26 July for further investigation. The four are being represented by lawyer Slogan Mathew.
“Public members are warned to refrain from these illegal and unlawful practices and those who will be caught will be arrested and dealt with accordingly by law,” Inspector Aiyambo warned.
Police have also requested help in tracing Kenyan national Jeremiah Mbugua Kamau, born 10 November 1978, who formerly worked at Nandos at Oshakati, in regard to a fraud investigation. On 11 November 2005, he was allegedly married to a Namibian woman without her consent at the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court.
“The wife is now stuck in a marriage without a husband,” Inspector Aiyambo added.
Anybody with information about Kamau’s whereabouts should contact the investigating officer, Detective Constable Stephanus, at the criminal investigations unit, Oshakati on 081 329 9299 or the nearest police station. – Namibia Daily News
