WINDHOEK, July 7 — The Namibian Police seized drugs worth 617,745 Namibian dollars (about 41,500 U.S. dollars) in June, according to an official statement.
The police arrested 153 suspects, including 148 Namibians and five foreign nationals, said police spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi in a press statement released on Wednesday evening.
“The Namibian police have confiscated cannabis weighing 55,545.53 kilograms … and 396 tablets of Mandrax and 145 units of crack cocaine,” Shikwambi said.
More has to be done to educate the nation on the dangers of drugs which can help reduce the use of drugs in Namibia and worldwide, she said.
“The use of drugs has become so prevalent in our society, and this is seriously threatening the future of many young Namibians simply because they are very vulnerable, not morally strong, and thus lured into these criminal activities,” Shikwambi said. (Xinhua)
