Namibia continues to be plagued by post-war unexploded ordnance

   WINDHOEK, Nov. 8 -- Unexploded ordnance (UXO), especially landmines, remains a concern in Nambia, particularly in the northern part and former war zones, an official said Thursday.
   Mbeuta Ua-Ndjarakana, executive director of Namibia's Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology said this after a 69-year-old man was killed in a landmine explosion in the northern Omusati region on Nov.3.
   Ua-Ndjarakana said that over the past 10 years, 14 people have been killed and 41 others have been injured by UXOs.
   Following these incidents, experts have been deployed to the area to conduct UXO investigations, he added.
   The government will continue to roll out educational campaigns on UXOs to prevent unnecessary losses of lives, Ua-Ndjarakana said.
   From 2000 to 2019, a total of 49,230 explosive remnants of war have been discovered in Nambia, he added. Xinhua
