KEETMANSHOOP, 24 SEP – The Keetmanshoop Urban Constituency football and netball teams were both declared as the first champions of the //Kharas Governor’s Cup on Sunday.
The tournament took place here from 21-23 September at the J Stephanus Stadium and saw eight teams from the seven constituencies within the //Kharas Region compete against each other.
It is aimed at creating regional teams that would at all times be battle-ready for inter-regional, national and international sporting events.
The football team received N.dollars 10 000 in cash, a floating trophy and 20 gold medals while the netball team received N.dollars 4 000, a floating trophy and 10 gold medals.
Karasburg East Constituency received N.dollars 5 000 and 20 silver medals and Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency walked away with N.dollars 2 500 and 20 bronze medals for second and third place respectively, in the football category.
Rowan Rooi from Karasburg East received N.dollars 1 000 for being the top goal scorer with seven goals in the football category.
In netball, !Nami#nus Constituency walked away with N.dollars 2 500 and 10 silver medals in second, while Karasburg East walked away with N.dollars 1 000 and 10 bronze medals in third place.
Morgazine Tanises and Gatherine Colhman were the overall best netball players and both received N.dollars 250 each.
The tournament, which is also aimed at addressing social ills in the region while creating opportunities for the youth to showcase their talent and develop healthy lifestyles, will be held annually. – NAMPA
