REHOBOTH, 09 JUL – Two incidents of reckless and negligent driving were reported to police in the Hardap Region on Sunday and Monday respectively.
No fatalities were reported, Namibian Police Force Crime Investigations Coordinator for Hardap, Deputy Commissioner Eric Clay told Nampa on Monday.
The first incident occurred around 13h40 on the C14 gravel road between Lüderitz and Maltahöhe, while the second happened 20 kilometres north of Kalkrand on the B1 national road.
“It was reported to the regional police that on Sunday, the driver of a Toyota Fortuner with a South African registration lost control of the vehicle and it left the road and overturned, causing serious injuries to the driver and three passengers,” Clay said.
All occupants of the vehicle were taken to the Mariental State Hospital for treatment.
In the accident of Monday, the driver of a Toyota Hilux pickup with Keetmanshoop registration allegedly fell asleep at the wheel.
“The vehicle left the road, went over the bridge, rolled once and landed on its wheels,” Clay said.
He said the driver, a South African national of unknown age, sustained slight injuries.
His wife sustained serious injuries and they were rushed to St Mary’s Hospital in Rehoboth.
Police investigations continue.
