Inaugural Councillor Van Neel Cup to be played in Gibeon

MARIENTAL, 05 JUL  – Gibeon will be a hive of activity this weekend with the inaugural Councillor Van Neel Cup set to take place.
The tournament will see teams from the Gibeon Constituency in the Hardap Region battle it out for a total of N.dollars 15 000 in prize money and for bragging rights.
Constituency Councillor Jeremia Van Neel told Nampa on Wednesday the tournament aims to bring the constituents together through sport.
“The tournament is a way to create entertainment through football for the young people of the constituency. They can socialise and share ideas on possible projects and business ventures,” he said.
There will also be a concert at the Gibeon Community Hall on Friday.
“Football and music bring together people in large numbers, so the football will be preceded by a music concert, whereby the youth will unite in song and dance,” Van Neel said.
The proceeds from the concert will be divided among the teams.
The tournament is only for non-league teams and players from the five sections within the constituency – !Nanseb, Frank Basson, Cornelius Isaack, Helena Pieters and Lukas Stephanus.
All teams will receive new football kits.
The winner will receive N.dollars 7 000, with the runner-up receiving N.dollars 5 000 and the losing semi-finalists will walk away with N.dollars 1 500 each.
The registration fee per team is N.dollars 1 000.
