The Nedbank for Autism Series is teeing off this Saturday, 6 August, at the Oshakati Golf Club. The overarching purpose of the Nedbank Autism Series is to create awareness for the Autism Association of Namibia, through pledges and donations. In 2021 alone, the Nedbank Autism Series raised a total of N$ 200 000, for the Autism Association of Namibia.
The 10-event 2022 edition of the series has concluded its first five events in style, with the recent being held in Tsumeb on 14 May 2022, where Terus Burger finished with a total of 36 points; and in Mariental on 23 July 2022, where Kiewiet Dreyer won with 36 points.
Nedbank Autism Series event coordinator, Dan Zwiebel, stated that this leg of the series promises to showcase emerging talent as the golfing community in the northern part of the country has started embracing the fluency one needs to excel at the sport. “Oshakati is a very special stop for the Nedbank for Autism Series, as the club is active in developing golf. The club boasts a rich lineup of young talent and experienced golfers, and we are thrilled we get to see the older and younger generation of golfers compete on the same grounds”, Zwiebel says.
Zwiebel further expressed his excitement when asked about his sentiments around this leg of the Nedbank for Autism. “With over 20 players already registered for the event, this round of the series promises to be one of the best the north has seen yet. I will be driving over 700 km from Windhoek to Oshakati for this round. I have made some great friends in Oshakati and look forward to seeing all the happy faces again when we meet on the golf course” Zwiebel concludes.
Nedbank Namibia’s Communications and PR Manager, Selma Kaulinge; explained that the Autism Series is an important platform to amplify awareness about Autism in Namibia. “The Nedbank for Autism Series aims to highlight a societal matter which many Namibians are not very familiar with. Using golf as a medium to create awareness for the Autism Association of Namibia, is the true aim of this golf series and we are optimistic that this year’s edition of the series will continue to positively contribute to the growth of autism awareness in our country,” Kaulinge mentions.
