Henties Bay, Sept. 5 — The artist who designed the iconic artwork at the gallows at Henties Bay that was unveiled during the Hentiesfees on Saturday, 27 August 2022, displayed great compatibility and talent.
The artwork which is a cod and fishing rod, created from stainless steel plates was unveiled by the mayor of Henties Bay, Lewis Entertainment.
Chris Snyman, carpenter of Swakopmund said that to be able to pull off the job stainlessly, he first had to study the shape of the cod and its fins to be able to create it for life. Then incline the scribbles and distinctive patterns on the fins and body.
Upon completion, the artwork was treated through an electronic process to give it a glossy finish while making it rust-resistant.
Snyman is a goldsmith, who creates shields and statues in a variety of metals – making him an expert in metalwork.
“I like to work on a larger, more industrial scale in stronger metals like steel. Although I have created several large works of art, such as the emblem for the White Sands Lodge. The Hentiesbaai’s cod is my first work of art to be permanently exhibited in public.
Snyman is also a painter, who has a couple of artworks on exhibition at galleries in Swakopmund and Windhoek.
