WINDHOEK, 14 APR – The hunting season will start on 01 May and end 31 August this year, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism announced Friday.
The hunting season enables members of the public to hunt certain species of game on invitation of a farm owner, lessee of farm or a registered conservancy.
Hunting should only take place on commercial farms of not less than 1 000 hectares, enclosed with registered game-proof fencing and on registered conservancy.
However, game on commercial farms of less than 1 000 hectares with normal livestock fencing can be hunted from 01 June until 31 July 2018.
The statement said a hunter is limited to a total of three large game animals or two large animals and four small game animals. Alternatively, they can hunt one large game animal and eight small game animals, or 12 small game animals.
Large game species include kudu, oryx and red hartebeest, while small game species consist of springbok and warthog.
“No person shall hunt more than one kudu during the hunting season or more than one other combination of numbers as specified of huntable game per hunting season,” the statement said.
The ministry does not allow game meat to be transported from north of the veterinary cordon fence.
