BEIRUT, Aug. 4– Hezbollah has no objection to holding public talks with Syria’s leadership when both sides consider the timing appropriate, its Secretary-General Naim Qassem said Tuesday.
Speaking during a ceremony marking Arbaeen of Imam Hussein, Qassem said Hezbollah hoped Syria would preserve its unity, restore stability, secure the return of Syrian refugees and end Israel’s presence in occupied Syrian territory.
Qassem also urged Lebanon’s political leadership to start a dialogue with Hezbollah, strengthen national unity and work to secure a full Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory, accusing the United States of backing Israel’s military actions in Lebanon.
He said implementation of the ceasefire understanding remained the path toward achieving an Israeli withdrawal, adding that Hezbollah’s resistance had prevented Israel from achieving its objectives.
Qassem pledged continued support for people displaced by the conflict through reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in cooperation with the Lebanese state and friendly countries.
He also reaffirmed Hezbollah’s commitment to continue resistance as long as the Israeli occupation persists, while expressing support for the deployment of the Lebanese army south of the Litani River. (Namibia Daily News / Xinhua)
